Helping Organizations Move Ideas Into Action
Working across government, education, nonprofits, economic development, workforce systems, and community engagement, Ponderosa Creek Advisors brings together deep public-sector experience, cross-sector leadership, and a practical understanding of how lasting progress happens. Ponderosa Creek Advisors was founded on the belief that effective strategy is grounded in relationships, trust, and long-term commitment to community. The firm works with organizations that are building solutions, coordinating stakeholders, and addressing complex challenges that require thoughtful leadership and collaboration.
Our Story
The only child of a hard-working single mom, founder Edward Tabet-Cubero spent a good part of his childhood roaming around outdoors, where an early connection to both public lands and public benefits systems helped shape his values around resilience, opportunity, stewardship, and community. Those experiences fostered a lasting appreciation for place-based leadership and the importance of strong public institutions and community support systems, especially for our youth.
Over the course of nearly 30 years, Edward built a career that crossed education, nonprofit leadership, public policy, and government service. His work has included roles as a public school teacher and administrator, university instructor, nonprofit executive, consultant, and senior staff to a United States senator.
After successful executive roles with Dual Language Education of New Mexico, the NM Center on Law and Poverty, and the Learning Alliance, where he played a key leadership role in the landmark Yazzie/Martinez vs. State of New Mexico education equity lawsuit, Edward was hired by U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich to serve as his State Director and Deputy Chief of Staff. During over six years in the Senator's office, Edward oversaw statewide operations, staffing and community engagement efforts across New Mexico, while advising on strategic initiatives, state and federal policy strategy, economic development, communications and local investments of federal funds. Across every role, one lesson remained consistent: meaningful progress happens through relationships, collaboration, and the ability to navigate systems with integrity and practical focus.
Ponderosa Creek Advisors was created to bring that experience together in service of organizations and communities working to solve complex challenges, strengthen partnerships, and create long-term impact across New Mexico and the Southwest. The firm’s name reflects both landscape and the philosophy — grounded, resilient, connected to place, and shaped by the understanding that strong systems depend on long-term stewardship and coordination.
